What is shockwave therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a modern effective treatment method. The term shockwave refers to high energy sound waves. In modern pain therapy, these shockwaves are generated in the shockwave therapy hand piece and generated to the painful body region, where they apply their healing effects and reduce pain at the site. Shockwaves accelerate the healing process by activating the body’s self healing capacities, damaged tissues gradually regenerate and heals.
The reported rate of clinical success from shockwave therapy is between 77 and 80 percent worldwide. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after three or four sessions.
Radial shockwave therapy:
Radial shockwave therapy is a form of shockwave where the energy is spread over a large surface area. Pneumatically generated shockwaves are introduced to the body over the treatment surface area my means of a moveable hand piece. The projectile (aka bullet) located in the hand piece is accelerated to a high speed by a pneumatic pulse. As the projectile strikes the small surface plate the therapeutic shockwave is created and delivered to the treated body region.

What is the success rate of shockwave therapy?

Does the treatment hurt?
There may be some discomfort during treatment, depending upon the level of pain that you are already experiencing. However, the treatments only last for about five minutes, and most people are able to tolerate this discomfort quite well.
Will there be any pain after treatment?
Most patients will experience an immediate relief of pain following treatment. However, within 2-4 hours after treatment, they may experience some soreness and/or redness in the treated area. This soreness has been reported as being very tolerable and it may last from a few hours to several days.
What about “physical activity” vs. “rest” following treatment?
It is recommended that you refrain from physical activity, especially any that would involve the treated region, for 48 hours following each treatment session.
How many treatments are needed and how often?
Each treatment session takes approximately 5-10 minutes. Most conditions require three to five sessions, ranging from 1-3 weeks apart.
