at Sandycove
The importance of Balance Therapy
Falling is the leading cause of unintentional death by injury worldwide. Improving your balance has a huge effect on day-to-day life. Impacting everything from comfort at work to sporting performance and independence, safety & mobility later in life.
To start our assessment we’ll evaluate your gait to determine potential problems with strength and posture.
Secondly, we'll analyse specific movements to assess weaknesses and strengths in your balance and muscle function. We will analyse your balance reactions, your balance on solid ground & on foam. Balance without vision & different standing postures.
Lastly, we will discuss your unique situation, your goals, and your functional activities and/or sports.
Together, these evaluations allow us to develop a treatment plan to improve your mobility and performance.
Sandycove Physiotherapy specialises in the importance of balance and walking for independent living, as well as for work activities, exercise, sports and enjoying life in general.

What Does Balance Therapy Entail?
Hip and ankle weakness often leads to balance problems, as does poor posture.
Strength and flexibility movements can help counteract these problems. These are often as simple as leg lifts while seated in a chair, or “knee marching.” We may also practice standing on one leg, walking heel-to-toe, or tracking the movement of your thumb with your eyes as you move it in various positions.
We provide a range of programs and therapies to evaluate and treat balance disorders:
